Darlene McBride

Darlene McBride is the Vancouver Regional Manager of HSB Canada, a niche specialty insurance market responsible for the region’s revenue growth, managing underwriting, sales and service for the Province of BC. She brings over 30 years’ experience working with Brokers, General Lines Insurers, Managing General Agents and Risk Managers holding positions in Business Development, Management, HR and Marketing. Darlene is a part-time instructor with the BC chapter of the Insurance Institute and is co-author for several CIP textbooks. She is a part-time faculty member at the British Columbia Institute of Technology teaching in their General Insurance and Risk Management program and as a part-time Faculty member for Simon Fraser University, has written and facilitates courses for their CRM asynchronous instruction platform. Elected to the FPI Board in January 2024, she sits on the Conduct Review Committee and is the Chairperson for the ERM Committee. Darlene holds a Canadian Insurance Professional (CIP) designation as well as Canadian Risk Management (CRM) and RIMS Fellowship (RF) designations. She is an associate member of the BC Risk & Insurance Management Association. In her spare time, Darlene is an avid reader and enjoys walking.

Vice Chair

Michael (Mike) Bose

As a young boy helping on his family farm, Mike Bose heard of “Mutual Fire Insurance” time and time again. Since 1892, the Bose family has been farming in Surrey, BC and over the past four generations, a member of the Bose family has been on the Board of Directors at Mutual Fire Insurance, providing passionate guidance. Mike is proud to continue the family tradition around the table and brings a unique historical perspective to the Board, highlighted by his enthusiastic leadership and engagement. Continuing his family’s trade, Mike and his family raise turkeys and farm produce to sell both commercially and at farmers markets in the Fraser Valley. If you can name it, Mike has probably farmed it! Mike is passionate about the agricultural community, playing a part in founding the Surrey Agriculture and Food Security Advisory Committee in the ‘90s – the first in Metro Vancouver. In his spare time, Mike is passionate about coaching hockey and spending time with family.

Michael Chang

Michael Chang is a Senior Finance Manager at Regent LP, a private investment firm based in Los Angeles, CA. Prior to this, he led various development and implementation project plans spanning across M&A integration, finance transformation, and CFO roadmaps.
Active in his community, Michael has served as a Board Director or committee member of several community organizations including South Fraser Search and Rescue, SurreyCares Community Foundation, Chartered Professional Accountants of BC (Surrey, Langley and North Delta chapter), Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), and KPU Alumni Association. He received a Community Service Recognition award from the Cloverdale-Langley Member of Parliament in 2020 and currently serves as an Independent Director and Audit Committee Chair with Four Points Insurance.
A proud alumnus of KPU, Michael was recognized as one of the “40 Ones To Watch” in 2021 by his peers. Michael was also the recipient of KPU’s Contribution to Student Life Award and KPU’s Giving Back Citizenship Award for leading community development initiatives during his undergraduate years.
He holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from KPU Melville School of Business and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia. In his personal time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Darin Lord Nessel CIP, ARe

As President and CEO, Darin Lord Nessel provides direction and leadership to the executive team at Mutual Fire Insurance. Darin guides the Company towards successfully implementing long and short-term strategic goals and acts as the direct liaison between the Board of Directors and Management. Darin is actively involved in the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and the Canadian Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (CAMIC), representing MFI among other Canadian and American members in the areas of insurance advocacy and education.
Prior to 1994, Darin worked in construction and sales and happened upon the insurance industry when he took a job as an insurance adjuster. Each job offered him unique experiences and provides insight into his role today; the chance he took on the insurance industry has greatly led to MFI’s success today. Darin holds both a Chartered Insurance Professional and an Associate in Reinsurance designation. When not at the office, Darin can be found on the golf course or travelling. He loves spending time with his wife Maria and enjoying BC summers at Mabel Lake with their friends and neighbours.

John Kartechner

John Kartechner is President of JWK ENT II HOLDINGS LTD. He has 40 years of experience in the reinsurance industry, most of it in senior positions, including President and CEO of a reinsurance company and Member of the Executive Committee of a reinsurance intermediary. He has a wide array of expertise in actuarial/technical, finance, underwriting, marketing, strategy, governance, regulatory, management and mentoring. He has served on the Board of a reinsurance company and the Reinsurance Research Council. Over his career, he was a frequent speaker at industry events and client functions, sharing his knowledge and expertise. John has experience with various mutual insurance companies during his time as a reinsurer and a reinsurance intermediary. In John’s free time he enjoys golfing and playing tennis.

Mary Martin

Mary Martin is a passionate volunteer and board member who firmly believes in collaboration and partnerships. She spent many years working in the medical industry assisting physicians before becoming a Councilor for the City of Surrey. As a Councilor, she chaired the Health, Parks and Recreation, and Diversity Committees. She helped develop and execute the annual Surrey Fusion Festival, which won several national and international awards. The family-oriented event continues to bring people together to celebrate and discover arts, crafts, history, food, dance, and music from different cultures. Her strengths in corporate governance, strategic planning, and operating budgets are a testament to her remarkable career.
Mary has 24 years of Board service supporting the following causes: the Centre for Child Development (presently Board Chair); Centre for Child Development Foundation; Yo Bro/Yo Girl Youth Initiative (presently Board Chair); Canadian Liver Foundation; Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation; and Semiahmoo House Society. She has been part of the Four Points Insurance Board since the company was founded in 2021.
When she’s not working or volunteering, Mary enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Robert (Bob) Park

Robert Park is an independent consultant, advisor, and board member. Until March 2020, Bob was the President, CEO, and a director of FinancialCAD Corporation, a financial analytics software company that provides valuation and risk analytics technology to clients in various industries, including banking, asset management, hedge fund management, insurance, audit, non-financial corporations, and governments. Bob co-founded the company in 1990 and became its CEO in 2003. During his time as CEO the company’s revenue grew more than eight-fold and attracted clients in more than 50 countries. It also received numerous awards for product innovation, corporate governance, and as a top employer that enabled the company to attract and retain top tier talent in highly competitive global markets.

Bob presently sits on the Board at Four Points Insurance and previously worked with the Canadian Advanced Technology Association Leadership Council, the Acetech board of directors, and Simon Fraser University’s Surrey Advisory Council.

Bob and his wife Annette live in Surrey, BC and are empty nesters whose four children are now out on their own. They now relish the time they get to spend with their grandchildren.

Robin (Rob) Stutt

Robin Stutt is a career investigator with over 40 years’ experience, including 27 years with the RCMP and 14 with the Special Investigation Unit of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. Prior to Rob’s retirement in 2017, he was instrumental in facilitating the start-up of a new independent investigation agency including directing resources, mentoring investigators, and implementing training and structural procedures. He has a keen eye for details and has an expansive knowledge of federal and provincial law as well as insurance regulations.
He is presently a Councilor with the City of Surrey and participates on multiple committees and community groups as part of his duties. Rob has a genuine interest in the future of our communities, in particular public safety and heritage. He chairs Surry’s Public Safety Committee and the Heritage Advisory Committee. He has also worked with several Boards, including the Sullivan Community Association, Surrey Homeless and Housing Society, Cloverdale Rodeo Association, Metro Vancouver Board, and Four Points Insurance.
He is passionate about the hockey community and is a lifetime member of the Cloverdale Minor Hockey Association participating on various committees throughout the years. He was also team manager for over five years with the British Columbia Elite Hockey League (BCEHL, formerly BCMML).
Rob enjoys riding and maintaining vintage motorcycles, working in his yard, labrador retrievers, and spending time with grandchildren.
